The sculpture of the American artist Thomas Schomberg, a boxer, is located on the premises of the Polish Olympic Committee and commemorates the United States' boxing team, who died in the crash of the IL-62 "Copernicus" plane on March 14, 1984, during the landing approach just outside Okęcie Airport. An identical monument, erected on August 7, 1985, is housed at the US Team's Olympic Preparation Center in Colorado Springs.
